It defines two sets of algorithms tailored to specific traffic types, which makes harmless tradeoffs to achieve a high quality mobile communication. The real-time traffic handoff algorithm trades off some packet loss to eliminate perceptible delay, while the non-real-time traffic handoff algorithm trades off delay to achieve lossless handoff.
