Emerging technologies, as the<br \/>\nname shows, should still be emerging from, or only recently<br \/>\nemerged from, the research base. In other words, emerging<br \/>\ntechnologies, in particular in our information and communication<br \/>\nfield, should be up-to-date by nature and therefore<br \/>\nshould not remain in that category for a long time. However,<br \/>\nthe reality is that the number of ComSoc subcommittees on<br \/>\nemerging technologies is growing quite fast, and some of them<br \/>\nhave been there for quite a long time (e.g., nine years since<br \/>\nestablishment). On one hand, every year there are new and<br \/>\ninteresting technical areas being proposed, which leads to<br \/>\nincreasing numbers of subcommittees. On the other hand, it<br \/>\nalso leads to more and more overlap with existing committees<br \/>\nand\/or subcommittees; hence, management of them becomes a<br \/>\nchallenge.
